Hanukah Party 2007

The Israeli Student Union at Debrecen Univeristy (DebU) organized a very Israeli Hanukah party at the "Cool" with a lot of Israeli music and "sufganiyot". it was actually more of the former as the sufganiyot "disappeared" just as quickly as i did when i grabbed the last one.
The music list was typical of what you'd find in a kibbutz disco (Kibbutz Eyal to be precise) where i (and many others) used to go during my soldier days. it was nonetheless refreshing to hear these songs again bringing my back to Israel in this cold... cold... land.

Shira Be-Tzibur and Karaoke night

Saturday night at the Jewish Center in Debrecen was the scene for Shira Be-Tzibur partly organized by Alon Bar who played the piano and Roi Zooker who prepared the the slides with the lyrics of the songs as well as the "Agudat Ha-Studentim" for Israeli students in Debrecen who provided the humous and pitot :-). It seems that students here do get out once in a while and when they do, they come together and do something that will bring them close to home which is great!
Being tone deaf, i took advantage of the situation by singing (tried to at least) along with the rest hoping the others will drown my voice and no one will notice. Alon did a fantastic job at the piano and Zooker's song list was nostalgic. we may have some talent among the crowd and perhaps the next "Kochav Nolad". well enjoy the pics and hopefully more events to come.

Road trip to Romania

Went on a little road trip to Romania along the Transylvania part of the country with a couple of friends, Anna and Ofir who both were great traveling buddies to be with.  Drove most of the first night till we hit Bia Mare where we spent the night at some 2 star Hotel that i believe was a former communist government building turned hotel.  Had breakfast the following morning then drove up to the mountains and did a hike to a waterfall then spent the night at a cottage at the foot of the mountain.  2nd day we just drove around the country side and visited churches and cemeteries, the usual sights and sounds of the "neighborhood."

Jam Session

Went out to watch Roi and Ofir hit it out at a jam session in a student bar near the Piac (pronounced piyatch). With Ofir on keyboards and Roi on percussion along with the rest of the student band members, they were free stylin with some cool jazz licks.
It was good fun and made feel like a student again with the crowd going crazy front row and center. After the session we kicked it out with some dancing to the beats of also student Dj that was not bad but had room for improvement on the list. At any rate check it out down below.

House warming / Birthday Dinner in Debrecen

Welcome to Debrecen! We have a lovely apartment here and my "offfice" has great view of the
opposite Communist-style apartment block and a bit of sky. So after a couple days in town Naama and I decided it's time to have a little house-warming dinner and since it was her birthday a couple days before we threw that in as well.
Naama's got great friends so we had good company good food and great fun. I guess the pics says it all.

Finally my first participation of an Ad-Tech convention was in London this year and it was a fantastic! It was great to finally meet the clients i work with and place a face to the name. It was also interesting to hang out with them on a much less business level and just chill.

Web 2.0: The 24 Minute Documentary

A little something i found on techcrunch that can tell us more about Web 2.0 and it's affects in the time to come and whether we're in a bubble.

A couple of weeks ago Michael Arrington got together with a number of startup CEOs and executives to video a discussion about Web 2.0. Participating in the discussion were Aaron Cohen (Bolt), Scott Milener and Steven Lurie (Browster), Keith Teare (edgeio), Steven Marder (Eurekster), Joe Kraus (JotSpot), Jeremy Verba (Piczo), Auren Hoffman (Rapleaf), Chris Alden (Rojo), Gautam Godhwani (Simply Hired), Jonathan Abrams (Socializr), David Sifry (Technorati), Matt Sanchez (Video Egg) and Michael Tanne (Wink).

The topics discussed included:

  1. What is Web 2.0?
  2. Are we in a bubble?
  3. What are the business models that will work on the web today?
  4. What is the role of publishers in a user generated world?
  5. How important and how big is the early adopter crowd?

The resulting video, kindly hosted by Photobucket, is below:
